Abdul Sattar Edhi, who went down in history as "the richest poor in the world or the most generous beggar in the world", established a charity foundation, opened hospitals and provided health services by begging. Who is Abdul Sattar Edhi, who dedicates his life to the orphans and needy people, and what he has contributed to our world until his death;

Edhi and his Mother;

Abdul Sattar Edhi was born on February 28, 1928 in the town of Bantwa, Gujarat, India. When Edhi was 11 years old, he dropped out of school and went to work to take care of his mother, who had a stroke and later became mentally unstable. He lost his mother, who could not be treated due to poverty, in 1947, 8 years later.

This death deeply affected Edhi. Because she met all the needs of her paralyzed mother herself, devoted her life to her mother, and therefore could not even get an education. During her mother's illness, Edhi kept thinking to himself about the condition of other patients who were like his mother, and the state of orphans in need of help. Because Edhi was able to take care of his mother somehow, what were people who had no one doing…

He Began to Beg;

As a matter of fact, Edhi lost his mother when he was only 19 years old and was left uneducated. Returning to his hometown of Pakistan, Edhi decided to beg after taking a few jobs. But Edhi's purpose of begging on the streets was quite different from other beggars. Edhi established the first health center in 1951, thanks to the money he saved by begging.

After opening the health center, more help began to come to him and thus he founded the Edhi Foundation. This foundation started to serve the mentally ill, orphaned children, the elderly and people in need of care, drug addicts, women's shelters and many other institutions and people.

Edhi Foundation;

Abdul Sattar Edhi never stopped begging until the end of his life, and thanks to this foundation, the support given to him increased tremendously throughout the country.

It was the name that single-handedly changed the face of prosperity in Pakistan after 1950, and the Edhi Foundation eventually became the world's largest provider of ambulance network services (over 1800).

According to Edhi Foundation 2016 data, 25 private hospitals serve with 335 health centers and thousands of employees. Thanks to the foundation, 20 thousand abandoned babies and more than 50 thousand orphans have been taken under protection so far. 40 thousand of these children were raised in many different professions, including nurses.

Although Edhi has a lot of money, he has never spent his life on himself. She didn't even have any clothes other than a spare dress in her life. When he passed away at the age of 88 in 2016, these two dresses and a pair of shoes were left of him.

Protested;

Edhi was a Muslim person and has conducted relief operations in Africa, the Middle East, the Caucasus region, Eastern Europe and the United States, as well as Pakistan. These aids he provided were not only for Muslims, but for all people. Despite Edhi's good thinking, he was subjected to criticism and propaganda by some so-called Muslims.

He, on the other hand, paid no attention to them and continued to achieve his goals, rushing to the feet of all people from all walks of life, from all faiths, from all backgrounds, in need of help. He was given dozens of awards both by his country Pakistan and around the world during his life, and he was deemed worthy of peace awards in many countries.

After Abdul Sattar Edhi died of kidney failure, mourning was declared in his country and hundreds of thousands of people attended his funeral. We sincerely congratulate Abdul Sattar Edhi, who started to beg for not being able to get an education and then spread this chain of kindness to the whole world, thank him for his great volunteerism and wish him mercy from Allah.
